Japanese gardens create environments which are designed to resemble nature through the careful placement of trees, shrubs, rocks, sand, artificial hills, ponds, and water.
At Kimurascape Techniques we specialize in maintaining and restoring Japanese gardens to their intended design.
Kimurascape is a style of shaping that brings plants, shrubs and trees back in balance and harmony with each other and their surrounding environment. It is friendlier to the eye than the traditional style used in Japan and is preferred by most American lovers of Japanese Gardens. In addition, the technique used for trimming, shaping and pruning plants improves the plant’s health as it promotes and stimulates growth.
We work on residential gardens of all sizes, from small space or patio courtyard gardens to large estate Japanese gardens in the Greater Bay Area. Typically Japanese styled gardens lend themselves to specific types of plants and trees. The types of plants and trees we stylize most often are maples, elms, podocarpus, weeping cherry contorted filbert, redwoods, ginkgo, cedar, oak, yew, boxwood, azalea, camellia, rhododendron, holly, hydrangea and all conifers to name a few.
In addition to our regular services we partner with landscape architects, landscape contractors and gardeners and make recommendations to our customers for all their gardening needs. We also encourage our customers to become involved in the maintenance of their garden and are happy to teach them some simple techniques to use.
Kimio Kimura, a master gardener from Japan, developed Kimurascape and his work can be seen all over the greater Bay Area and United States. He designed and developed the Hayward Japanese Gardens as well as the Japanese Gardens on the estates of Ken Behring, in Blackhawk, Ca and George Lucas, in Marin County.
As a student of Kimurascape, studying under Kimio Kimura, I have been able to understand, learn and successfully apply Kimurascape Techniques to many Bay Area gardens, bringing them back to their intended design and to the satisfaction of their owners.
